Paris elopements aren’t just about the backdrop; they’re about the experience. The quiet streets at sunrise. The way the light reflects off stone buildings. The feeling of moving through the city together without an audience. As a Paris elopement photographer, I’ve seen how different these days feel compared to traditional weddings. They’re slower. More intentional. More focused on the two of you. If you’re considering eloping in Paris, here’s what you actually need to know before you book your flight.

Paris Elopements: Who They’re Right For & How They Feel
Paris elopements are something special. They feel easy. The romance of the city bleeds into your story, making everything feel a little less like you’re performing and a little more like you’re living inside of a film.
Picture this: you wake up in a charming hotel. You take a slow, effortlessly calm morning, with plenty of time to have coffee on the balcony while overlooking the city with the love of your life. You two start getting ready, together, letting the excitement of the day overtake you. Then, a first look. A stroll to the Eiffel Tower, with stolen kisses along the way. A declaration of how much you two love each other, surrounded by the most beautiful views. Then, an easy celebration, taking photos together all around the city. That’s the story your day should tell.
Paris elopements tend to attract couples who value intimacy over spectacle. You’re likely someone who prefers a meaningful experience over a production. You care about atmosphere, about architecture, about how your photos feel years from now. You want your day documented honestly, not overly directed.

Paris Elopement Locations
There’s no shortage of stunning, picturesque spots in Paris. One of the most iconic, with good reason, is the Eiffel Tower. And trust me, it makes a stunning backdrop for an elopement. This is where we went for Yannick and Vivianne to say “I do,” and it couldn’t have been more perfect. It told a story all on its own, and added texture, depth, and grain to their gallery.
If you’re looking for more Paris elopement locations, there are a few other spots I love. Because while the Eiffel Tower is iconic, it requires early timing and flexibility. Luxembourg Gardens feels softer and more intimate. Parc des Buttes-Chaumont offers dramatic elevation and fewer tourists. Parc de Bagatelle has a whimsical, dreamy atmosphere and gazebos that create a gorgeous elopement spot.
Tips for Planning Paris Elopements
As a Paris elopement photographer who focuses on cinematic, storytelling, documentary-style photos, I’ve learned a few tips to get a gallery that feels like this:
Elope at sunrise. The time of day is the single biggest difference between a crowded tourist experience and a private elopement experience. The Eiffel Tower area can be packed by mid-morning. At sunrise, it feels entirely different… Quiet, spacious, and cinematic.
Wear something unique that feels like you. In a setting with so much architecture and beauty, your bridal style should match. Be comfortable, of course, but still elevated. Vivianne’s pearl topper was the best example of this: a simple look with a statement that stood out against the city without competing with it.
Be prepared to move. The best galleries come from movement. Movement in shots when guided, movement around the city for a variety of backdrops… It makes a difference in how your photos feel. So be sure to wear shoes that you can walk and dance in.
Have a weather plan. Whether it’s just bringing an umbrella or choosing to fully embrace the rain, I’m here for it. Just know weather can be unpredictable, so having some form of a plan is key. I’m always here to help you with this, too, as someone who knows the city well.

FAQs About Eloping in Paris
Can Americans legally elope in Paris?
France does require residency to actually legally get married there, unless your parents are French. The best way to go about this is having a civil ceremony done in your home country, followed by a symbolic ceremony in Paris. The meaning is still there, and that’s all that matters.
Do you need a permit to elope in Paris?
If it’s just the two of you (plus your photographer), a permit usually isn’t needed. This can vary depending on the location you’re choosing, but I’m here to help you with all of that. Just be sure to be respectful of the area you’re in and the people around, no matter what.
What is the best time of year for a Paris elopement?
Spring and fall bring the best weather in Paris. Mild temperatures, soft lighting, and long days make these months perfect for your romantic French elopement.

Where to Take Elopement Photos in Paris
For portraits, I like to start all around the Eiffel Tower. There are so many spots around there that work for a gallery like this: stairs, balconies, arches, waterfront views… And they’re a dream every time.
From here, I like to hit nearby parks and city streets to add a bit of variety in backdrops and tell the story of how you two moved through the city.
I also tailor photo locations to each individual couple. I want to hear how you want your gallery to feel, and base where I guide you around that to achieve that feeling.

Why My Approach as a Paris Elopement Photographer Works Well for These Days
My approach to Paris elopements is documentary first, editorial when it matters. I guide when needed, especially for portraits, but I prioritize natural interaction and movement. Paris provides texture and structure; your connection brings the rest.
